We have a special treat for our members! Following a presentation by our guest speaker and discussion, which will be attended by the FSH Society’s June Kinoshita, we will tour the exhibits at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, one of America’s leading contemporary art institutions.

Our guest speaker Laura Supplee is a genetic counselor at Spectrum Health Medical Genetics. She is involved in the Pediatric Muscular Dystrophy and Neuromuscular Clinic at Spectrum Health and will present on the basic genetics of FSHD (variability, inheritance, etc), differences in testing options and differences between FSHD1 and FSDH2.  She will also discuss the availability of genetic testing, when is an appropriate time to test, and who to test within a family.

Laura attended University of Detroit Mercy and earned a master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from Wayne State University.  She is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling and an active member of the Michigan Association of Genetic Counselors. Laura is also a member of the Neurogenetics SIG through the National Society of Genetic Counselors and through her experience at Spectrum Health has developed a particular interest with patients with muscular dystrophies.

The meeting will take place in the Boardroom. Lunch will be served.
